I was bored and had nothing to do so i came to this blog. Since i gather from the tagboard that this blog is NOT completely dead yet, i decided to make a post. For starters, going to this link and reading up might give you the latest update to the newest gourmet in china.

Anyway,I was guessing most people are free during these few weeks of holidays and wondered whether anyone would want to organize either a class gathering or chalet.It would be nice for the class to get together again after more than 1 year of separation since graduation.Comments on the tagboard and opinions can be tagged on the tagboard for reference.

Home coming dinner 2008

Mrs Sum has asked me to tell you guys regarding the upcoming home coming dinner:

Date: 2 August 2008
Time: 7-10pm
Venue: School hall
Ticket: $40 per head

Mrs Sum says that, if needed, she would subsidise a portion of the $40. She did not say, though how much.

Oh yeah, she also mentioned that many of you guys owe her a favour (from the missing homework still not handed in, the many pens confiscated while spinning them, the trouble caused in class etc.)

More details of the event can be found on the school website. The school states that this would be a great event to meet old schoolmates and teachers, and at the same time keeping connections with the school.

Collection of testimonial and 'O' Level certificate

The School Graduation Certificate (more commonly known as testimonial) for pupils who took the 2007 GCE ‘O’ Level examinations can be collected from the school general office with immediate effect.

Note that there are two documents that you need to collect: the testimonial and the 'O' Level certificate.

The general office is open throughout the June school holidays at normal office hours. Collect your relevant documents from the clerk. You are required to come personally & produce identification (ez-link or NRIC) when collecting the two documents.

Chalet?

I'm so sorry for not making the BBQ happen. I've been really busy dudes!

Okay the update now is Xiuqi suggested a chalet at any weekend (doesnt hv to be holiday). Maybe a 2 day 1 night. But someone has to book. Any volunteers?

Price should be around $10 - $20 per person if at least 20 people come, for 2D1N.

I don't know when. But I'm having exams when school reopens!!!!

Here is a gist if you are not bothered to read the things below :-

JC/MI: Report at 20 Feb 08 to posted school (whether you appealing or not) at 7.30am

Poly/ITE: visit http://www.polytechnic.edu.sg/ or http://www.ite.edu.sg/ . Application is within 2 working days after the results release

The posting results of the JAE application will be released on 19 Feb 2008 at 8am.

Applicants are posted to courses based first on the applicants’ merit and second, in the order of the applicants’ choice of courses.

The posting results of the JAE 2008 is accessible via the following modes:

a. Form D (Notification of Posting Results) will be sent to all applicants by mail;
b. JAE IVRS (Interactive Voice Response System) at telephone number 6691-2131;
c. JAE-IS;
d. Short Messaging System (SMS) via applicant's mobile number (if available).

Junior College / Millennia Institute

Students who are offered a course in a JC/MI must report to the JC/MI on the date stipulated in the JAE-IS. Generally, this will be the next working day following the release of the posting results (which is 20 February 2008 at 7.30am). Any student who fails to report to the JC/MI on this date will be deemed to have forfeited his/her place; the place will be made available to other eligible applicants appealing for a place in the course.

Polytechnic / ITE

Students who have been offered a course in a Poly or ITE should expect to receive an
enrolment package / posting letter by post after JAE posting results. Students are required to enrol at the Poly or ITE on the date stated in the package / letter. Any student who fails to report to the Poly or ITE on this date will be deemed to have forfeited his/her place; the place will be made available to other eligible applicants appealing for a place in the course.

Appeal / Transfer Applications

Students may appeal for a transfer to another course or institution only after the release of the
JAE posting results. Appeals are evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the institution he/she
has approached, and may be granted only when compelling reasons are presented and
vacancies are available. Please note that students must report to the institution he/she is posted to while waiting for the result of their transfer application. Any student who fails to report to the institution he/she is posted to will be deemed to have forfeited his/her place in the course; the place will be made available to other eligible applicants appealing for the course.

Transfer Applications to JC/MI

Students who wish to appeal for a transfer to a particular JC/MI should approach the
Principal of that JC/MI directly. The outcome of any such application will be provided by
the JC/MI directly.

Transfer Applications to Polytechnic / ITE

Students who want to appeal for either a place in a diploma course or want to transfer to another diploma course can do so via an appeal system from 9am tommorow to 4pm on Thursday. For more details, refer to http://www.polytechnic.edu.sg/ .

Refer to http://www.ite.edu.sg/ for appeals to ITE. The outcome of any such application will be provided by the ITE directly.

JAE Appeals

This post contains information on how & when to appeal to the various pre-university institutions & polytechnics. We have tried to provide links to the various schools (e.g JAE online forms) where possible.

Appeals are either through the (usually) niche CCAs (of the particular school) or through academic qualifications.

You are recommended to also view the subject combinations offered by the school that you're appealing into, as JAE Appeal forms usually require applicants to state their prefered subject combination.

As a reliable gauge, there are two appeal periods: for IP schools (19-21 Feb) & non-IP schools (to 26 Feb 08). The MOE will close applications for non-IP school appeals on 5pm on 26 Feb).

Because of the usually mad-rush of transfers of students (and we're serious) & the wish to begin the year promptly, the various schools are extremely strict on the deadlines.

Admission through CCA

If you're keen to appeal through CCA to gain entry to a school, do note that the period for auditions/try-outs would be (approx.) between now and right after the JAE posting results.

The CCAs that are usually considered are the niche CCAs (of the particular school).

This does not apply to DSA students.

So you may want to check the various school websites/contact them for further details.

JAE Exercise

By now, after collecting your 2007 GCE ‘O’ Level results, you should have the following:-

- Results slip
- Form A (the letter containing your JAE PIN and your L1R4/L1R5 results)
- JAE Information Booklet ( www.moe.gov.sg/esp/schadm/jae )

Please note that your JAE application has to be done though the JAE Internet System (JAE-IS). The dates for the registration are strictly as follows:-

From 3.00pm on Thursday, 24 January 2008
To 4.00pm on Monday, 28 January 2008

Please read your information booklet carefully.

Before you log-in to the JAE-IS, there is a JAE Worksheet on Form A and page (ii) of the information booklet to do your planning.

The planning will be useful since the PAE-IS will time-out in 10 minutes.

Please check your application carefully. An amendment made will cost $10. And you can only amend once.

You are strongly recommended to print the Verification Slip (page 12, information booklet), as evidence of your JAE registration.

You can get internet access from: JCs, MI, Polys, ITE Campuses, MOE-CSC ( www.moe.gov.sg/esp/schadm/jae )

The results of the JAE posting will be made known approximately three weeks from now through:-

Administration Matters:

School instructions for the release of GCE ‘O’ Level results

Every candidate coming back to school has to be in proper grooming (natural coloured hair, proper hair length & style) and school uniform. It is decided for the class that everyone will be required to be in full school uniform.

Students who fail to meet the above requirements will not be allowed entry to school premises.

Apart from that, the school wishes to inform that library fines and other outstanding school fines has to be cleared before receiving the ‘O’ Level results.

In light of recent events concerning, let us not draw any negative attention to ourselves.

Under what admission exercise (e.g JAE) to I participate in when choosing my post-secondary institution?

When you receive your ‘O’ Level results, your teachers will instruct you on the admission exercises that are available/valid to you.

Should I consider joining a CCA at my new school?

It is strongly advised that you do so. Since you’ll acquire skills & life-skills through CCAs, this would be a plus point for you in the future. Apart from that, it’ll also benefit you if you are active in other activities outside the classroom. Just for your information, at least two of the local universities here look for students who not only have good grades, but also have good CCA records.

Release of GCE ‘O’ Level Examinations Results

The results for the 2007 GCE ‘O’ Level Examinations are widely expected to be released around the third or fourth week of January 2008. Speculated dates include 22 & 28 Janurary.

Candidates (except DSA/DPA) would then be able to opt for either a Pre-University education or polytechnic education. Candidates currently under the PAE are also required to re-apply to their desired education institutions under the Joint Admissions Exercise (JAE) .

Do make use of the upcoming polytechnic Open Houses (refer to previous posts) to do last minute research before making an informed decision of your post-secondary education route.

Provisional Pre-U 1 (PAE) Exercise

For those of you involved in the PAE exercise (1st 3 mths in JC), you should have:-

PAE Information Booklet
MOE Form A (w. password)

The exercise will commence online on the MOE website from this Monday (from 8am) to this Wednesday (4pm). It is recommended by the school that you complete your application by this Monday. You are advised to fill in all 12 choices.

It is no guarantee that you will attend the 1st 3 months in JC.

Remember that for each registration page, you are given only 10 mins; meaning that if you exceed 10 mins, the system will time-out.

Hence you will need to fill in the Form A of the slip that is given so that you can just type your options when you're online.

You are only allowed one change in the application that you submit.

Dear class,

While some events that have happened throughout the year were not necessarily pleasant, I hope that you have taken more positives than negatives from the two years in each other’s company.

It would be unfair if I do not give acknowledgement to the teachers of 4E4.

Our Home Teachers, Mr Desmond Ng and Ms Dorine Chia have stuck through thick and thin for us. They have always tried their best to do whatever is possible even when the odds are against them. Do remember your HTs when you graduate from secondary school. The other subject teachers have also contributed to the class. Their efforts are greatly appreciated.

I would also like to give a big shout out to the Class Welfare Committee, namely Vice-Chairperson Kereen and other members like Zahirah, Jun Xuan, Justin, Syafiqah, Vincent, Jing Yang and Wen Jin. Thank you for doing mundane tasks like setting up the visualiser, taking attendance, collecting funds and cleaning up the classroom. Special thanks to Zahirah and Farhanah Asnin for coming up with the Graduation Day video clip.

By now, you would have realised that success comes with hard work. I hope that you will constantly remember this in whatever that you’re pursuing in. Best wishes for the future!

This is a complulsory event.

You will receive your report books and souvenir from your Home Teachers.

Be in proper school uniform.

Congratulations to the students receiving the Best in Subject, Individual Colours Awards and Friends of Singa Awards. Refer to the post ‘Instructions to Prize Winners’. You will go up to the hall straight. Assign someone to collect your report book and souvenir.

A run-through of the order for receiving the awards was conducted for those above on last Friday. The awards will be given out in the following sequence: Best in Subject, Individual Colours Awards and Friends of Singa.

There will be seats allocated for you. There will be stickers of your names on those seats. If you are receiving multiple awards, you have to be alert on that day and seat on the different seats in sequence.

The following are instructions from the Teacher-In-Charge. Those getting awards are to report at the hall directly before 8am. That means 7.50a.m, not 8 a.m. Your attendance will be taken there. Assign someone from the class to collect the report book and souvenir on your behalf. The Chairman will notify to the Home Teachers of your presence at the hall. BRING YOUR SCHOOL TIE. That is to be worn during the Graduation Day. Be in your proper school uniform too.

Key points:-

Bring your Entry Proof + NRIC/EZ Link when reporting for the examinations.

Report at the Examination Centre 30 minutes before the commencement of the paper.

For pupils retaking Mother Tongue: the paper will be held at 31st October 2007, AM. Pupils retaking MT should have received their latest receipt.

Plan early and pace your revision.

The 24 hour clock is shown at the examination timetable. E.g 2p.m is shown as 1400.

No extra time will be given for reading the question, etc.

Sit 15 minutes before the commencement of the paper.

Candidates with hanyu pinyin names are required to write both their statutory and hanyu pinyin names, with the hanyu pinyin names in brackets.

Write down your particulars on the question paper and every sheet of question paper.

Use blue of black pen. Write legibly.

Write down the question attempted.

Each student is advised to maximize the September holidays with their respective preparations for the upcoming GCE ‘O’ Levels.

It is about five weeks to the ‘O’ Level Practical Examinations and seven weeks to the written examinations.

Not much homework is given during this holiday. This gives more time to revise and concentrate on the topics which you are unfamiliar with.

A Practical Session was conducted on Wednesday for both Sciences. Refer to the post on ‘Summary of Extra Lessons’ for more details. PROGRESS REPORT slips were also issued out. A full Mathematics paper was given to selected students.

For these selected students, you are required to attend a remedial with Mr Ng. Details are as shown:-

The results for the MT 'O' Levels was released earlier this afternoon, in the presence of the Principal, HOD of MT and Secondary 4E/5N deans.

All of them were feel disappointed by the showing by this current batch.

What to do during the examinations:

- Prepare your Entry Proof: I/C or Ez-link or Foreign Student Pass
- Listen to instructions on the procedure
- Be in best behaviour. While waiting, you are facing towards the examiners.
- Before you read the passage at a table, you need to confirm your attendance by signing an OMS.
- Hand over your Entry Proof when seeing the examiners

It makes use of the ‘Ask n Learn’ portal. Do make use of it. I also suspect that you need WinZip to open the files since the files are compiled in .zip format.
